Here are some good questions to ask when choosing a builder. When deciding on a builder  to build your new home, or addition, it’s best to start by asking people you know who have had a similar project done whom they used, and what their experience was like.

It’s also important to ask prospective builders for some referrals, and to call those referrals. Below are some questions I include at the bottom of my reffereal list for prospective clients to ask about prospective builders:

How good were the communications between you and the builder? How organized was the project? Did you end up with the home you envisioned?

Did the project get completed reasonably close to the expected due date?

Did you make many changes; especially changes that would affect the completion date or budget, and were you happy with how changes were handled?

Did the project get completed reasonably close to the projected budget, when considering changes made along the way?

How well were the communications between you and the builder? How organized was the project? Did you end up with the home you envisioned?

Did you enjoy the building process? Did the builder make the process as easy and enjoyable as possible?

Do you feel the builder had your best interests at heart? Did the builder try to up-sell you where possible, or find ways for you to save money without sacrificing what you wanted to accomplish?

Would you use this builder again?

You should also consider questions relating to any concerns or traits that are of paticular importance to you and your paticular project, such as if the builder has done any ICF homes if you are planning on building an ICF home.

The goal of everyone should be to ensure that the relationship between the builder and the owner is going to be sucessful from the start.
